Menwar is the most innovative ambassador of Sega music in Mauritius today. He is a charismatic singer with a strange voice, but he is also a songwriter, a composer and an accomplished musician (he is a master of the ravanne, the main instrument of Sega music). A prophet and a rebel, Menwar acts as a spokesman for the Creole minority in Mauritius. Far from the deceiving image of Mauritius as a paradise for luxury tourism, he sings the every-day reality of the small people, the injustice, the discriminations, drugs, the young's unemployment, but also hope and love... With his band Sagaï, he has created a musical concept drawing from the tradition, notably sega, the music of the slaves brought into the island by French and English settlers, while modernising and enriching it. He performs surrounded by percussionists, a guitarist and a bassist among the best in the island. His rare concerts are true rituals that attract a young and mixed public.
